Time For The Electeds To Stop & Let The People Decide!

SAWS Public Meetings

- Monday, October 30, 2023, 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall

On the County side of the equation, first we had the County Commissioners refusing to restore the County Clerk’s statutory responsibilities and duties. Then the County Commissioners refuse to appoint a replacement Commissioner as prescribed by State Statute. Now they are part of dissolving and created boards for no apparent reason other than - trust us this will make it better.

Here is what; the Citizenry of Sheridan County can trust.

The County Commissioners seem intent on controlling taxpayer money with the least amount of oversight or citizen input. The force taxpayers to pay for them to hire lawyers to protect their secrets. They have disregarded the law to protect their scheming by obstructing the timely appointment of a new commissioner fearing the replacement wouldn’t be sympathetic to their abuses of authority. Since all these issues are under litigation, they refuse to address any public question on the matter.

It is bad enough that the County Commissioners are involved in this distasteful conduct. Yet name one public official that has gone on the record publicly – denouncing the behavior. There are a few, yet even so, have fun finding it in print with a simple internet search.

Now on the City’s side of the equation, recently, they tried to pull a fast one and change the default residential zoning from R-1 to R-2, so some individuals can make more money, often subsidized by taxpayers, by cramming more people into smaller areas. Furthermore, something is going on with the Brooks Street waterline that is shady. Both County and City have been working on this project from its conception, yet here we are.; delays and additional cost to – you guest it – the taxpayer.

Ignorance may be bliss til it bits you in the behind. Perhaps it’s time to nip this in the bud and stop the SAWSJPB dissolution until some reasonable question can be answered. First an foremost: why is this necessary? What is wrong with the City and SAWS infrastructure that requires these actions?

After attending last night's meeting, I am of the mind that because of the lack of transparency there is in fact something else going on that we all need to know about. The attorney report indicating concerns from 2015 in regards to this "project", his continuing concerns and the lack of availability to us, the citizens of Sheridan County for review of what those initial concerns were then and what they are now. Additionally, why is this being considered? The first response is $$. The fact that the City of Sheridan handles the billing, repairs, etc. Okay, so this is as it has been for how long? I want to see numbers! How much is this costing the City to…

Keeping things decentralized, in the hands of local administrators, is almost always the way to go. Consolidation of water resources into fewer hands has been underway throughout the west for a very long time. Keep our control at home. Thank you for this.

I totally agree and 2nd that we take a step back and get some transparency into County 'dealings' before moving on ... I'm out of town for these meetings but please use this as my comment at those meetings. Brenda Wile - Sheridan County
